Board of Education and Calvert Education Association Reach Tentative Agreement on Three Year Employment Contract

Joint Press Release
Calvert County Public Schools and
Calvert Education Association

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JANUARY 24, 2013

Board of Education and Calvert Education Association Reach Tentative Agreement on Three Year Employment Contract

The Calvert County Board of Education and Calvert Education Association reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year teacher contract.
Under the tentative agreement reached on January 24, teachers would be repositioned on a new salary scale, would receive a one-step increase, and would receive a one percent cost of living adjustment. Teachers at the top of their salary scales who would not be eligible for a step increase on the new scale would receive a one-percent salary adjustment for next school year.
Even though the negotiated contract is for three years, salary and compensation will be negotiated again in the second and third years of the contract. In addition, the Calvert Education Association and Board of Education may choose two other articles to negotiate each year.
Other changes in the tentative agreement include: modification of several timelines, clarification of the voluntary transfer process, and institution of the use of electronic instead of paper notifications regarding employment opportunities. The only changes made to employee health care benefits were those required by the Affordable Health Care Act.

Both the teachers and the Board of Education must now ratify the tentative contract.
