If I do it all the time, I know it and retain it; if I don't, I have to have notes or a process sheet to refer to. I'm more comfortable with concepts and ideas than formulas and details.

But when you're used to studying, don't work (or don't work many hours), and have plenty of 'free' time, it works out.

I disagree, to a certain extent. It's true, if all you do is memorize how to do the problems in the book, then you obviously only learn those problems. However, the problems in the book are there to provide you with different examples of how the theory can come at you. If you learn the theory (via the book or lecture), then the problems should be relatively simple and only reinforce what you should have already learned. That makes them practice, not the actual teaching mechanism. So really it's a good idea to listen to learn and then use the problems to practice/reinforce the learning.

Out of curiosity, what kind of classes were you able to pull that off?
Controls and Vibrations, Continuum Mechanics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Manufacturing Techniques, Partial Differential Equations, Internal Combustion Engines, and a 2nd Mechanics of Materials Class, I think they called it advanced machine design but it was pretty much a class on fatigue.

I always hated the 1 credit hr labs, they werent worth the effort so I usually just did enough to get a C and that was it.

This class happens to be Statistics, but I had the same homework/study load when it was Engrish 1010 and even worse when it was Algebra. Yes, I got an A in English and a high B in Algebra, and I'll most likely get an A on the test tomorrow but geez...

Am I just dumb and lazy? How do these kids do this with 5 or more classes and still pull good grades???
I keep asking myself: why at my age do I even care if I get an A...or even a C for that matter!? I just need the degree.

I'm competitive. Not necessarily with others but with myself, and don't like it when I'm not achieving good results by putting out my best work.

I just signed up again so we'll see how it goes this time. With a one year old, another on the way, the Cyber Security EO, and an audit it should be a fun 2013.

That works, I always did better in a class when I was in there with someone I hated but was a good student so i HAD to do better than them. Does that qualify as competitive or or just blind hate LOL.

I suffer from CRS - so I take notes, If I need to remember it, for future reference, my office has 2 white boards, for tracking projects ... I also tell people to put items in the work order tracking system .... or email me

if I was interested in a topic I did well ...... English Lit, History, Graphic Arts, Drafting .. for example A's and B's

not interested - English Grammar, Algebra, Biology - not so well C's or D's

You got this. I'm wrapping up my Master's this semester with a 3 month old and a 2 year old.

Honestly right now I'm busier than I ever was as an undergrad taking a full course load. I'm only doing 1 or 2 graduate courses a semester, but after a full workday, dealing with all the house stuff (cleaning, cooking, fixing, etc), spending some time with the kids, class time + homework time is killing me. I'll be so happy to be done.
