| Chas: Propane tank accident causing dismissal dela This just in from Charles County Public Schools... Propane tank accident causing dismissal delays for several schools
An overturned propane tanker on Bensville Road (Route 229) near Carrie Court in Waldorf will delay dismissal of certain Charles County Public Schools students at a number of schools this afternoon, especially William A. Diggs Elementary School, Theodore G. Davis Middle School and North Point High School in Waldorf. The roadway is closed between Route 228 and Zoll Lane. Residents of Valley Drive, Sedgeland Court, Carrie Court, Shannon Drive, Poplar Court and Paperbirch Court are being evacuated. Emergency personnel do not expect to open the road for several hours. If you live in one of these areas, your child will not be dismissed from school. Students will remain at school, where parents can pick their children up after the end of the school day. Other buses may need to be rerouted, which could cause later drop-off times. Charles County Public Schools has notified the parents of children that attend Davis, Diggs and North Point of the situation. The school system will post updated information on the afternoon dismissal on the Charles County Public Schools website at www.ccboe.com. Charles County Public Schools provides 26,700 students in grades prekindergarten through 12 with an academically challenging education.
