I think there was something in the news about the punch cards used in FL not being reliable during the last presidential election.

One would think you could find an authoritative source. If you believe, from looking at all the URLs at the bottom of the article, this was a well researched article, you should look more closely. They are all circular referrrals to the extant article.

You know what's really funny about this story? It's not true.

I have a GREAT idea on a new voting system.

Check this out... it's totally gonna blow your mind, because it's so ingenious, yet so elegantly simple...

On election day, you show up to vote, and they give you a piece of paper. On this piece of paper you write (for example) BUSH or KERRY on the piece of paper, and fold it in half.

Then you go up to a certified vote-taker who will take your folded paper and insert it into a SEALED BOX with a slot on the top of it.

Then after ALL the votes are in, they hire 2 or 3 people to go to a sealed room, and COUNT the votes.

Then the totals are written on another sheet of paper which is sent to a central location that maintains the official national tally.

I know... it's CRAZY.

But it's just crazy enough to work.

Here's the sad part of it.

I have at my disposal RIGHT NOW as I sit here - the means to write a flawless voting program.

It wouldn't be fancy, but it would have a touch-screen that the voter would interface with, and a barcode scanner to ensure someone couldn't vote twice. This program would be accurate to within a single vote - and the security would be impenetrable.

It would take me all of about TWO FRIGGIN DAYS to design, implement and test its functionality.

Hah! The Dems got you beat. See, they decide that it's high time we give driver's licenses to illegals. Excuse me, UNDOCUMENTED workers.

When they go down to the DMV, they hand them a piece of paper that registers them to vote. It has this little question that asks "are you a citizen?" and if you're an illegal - you say yes anyway. It doesn't hurt.

Now you can vote. Guess what? When they ask for ID, you give them your driver's license. Ain't that cool?

Now who ya gonna vote for?

Sweet. Do it. Make sure that the hardware is not networked during election time, can pass the Help America Vote Act of 2002, can be secured, easy to use and have a print out to verify what each voter voted for. Can you build a scanner to tally provisional and absentee ballots? I guess a ballot box would be great to, since the current one sucks donkey balls. Reports would need to be sorted by each race and needed to be put in alphabetically by last name or be able to sort by district/presinct, legislative district, commissioner district and by party. Any other questions, just let me know. I'm sure we get definitely get you a contract for $90million dollars only to be outlawed in the following year.

BTW, it can't be a touch screen. I believe there is a bill that is trying to outlaw them in the state of maryland.

Thanks for doing the research. The original article posted by nhboy was from 9/11/07. The dates mentioned in the press release were from January 2007.

nhboy, this is at least the second time I've noticed very old news releases (in this case an editorial). Can't you post something more recent or accurate?

Just asking!

Keep trolling DU, they always are on top of things!
