GOP Block Voting Machine Testing

Why doesn't the GOP want Ohio's voting machines tested?

Ohio Republicans have blocked a proposal to test electronic voting machines prior to the 2008 presidential primary.

By a 4-3 vote, Republicans on Ohio's State Controlling Board blocked Democratic Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner's proposed $1.8 million unbid contract for voting machine testing. Brunner had already set aside the $1.8 million for the test.

Tests and studies conducted by the federal Government Accountability Office, Princeton University, Johns Hopkins, the Brennan Center, the Carter-Baker Election Commission, John Conyer's House Judiciary Committee and others have all shown clearly that electronic voting machines are unreliable and easily rigged.

I think it's a good idea to test the machines but why wasn't the contract sent out for bids? That's the problem.

That's strange. All the reports that I've read say that electronic voting has some issues, but it's still better than what we have now.

How can anyone respect a party that has the playground mentality of accusations of cheating when they just LOSE?

You're quoting a site called smirkingchimp.com? Give me a break. This site has a blogroll with Crooks&Liars in their ranks and they site Democratic Underground as 'News and Commentary'?

Sorry, ain't buying it. Give me a link from a CREDIBLE news site and I just might believe it. But this one? Not a chance.
