I also read somewhere that he doesn't wear the America flag pin on his lapel like you always see the president wearing.

Indirectly.

It's mentioned in the text on the Snopes page. Basically he said, "It's more important what's in someone's heart than the symbols they present". He was referring directly to why he stopped wearing his flag lapel-pins that everyone was wearing after 9/11, but presumably that could be repeated when asked about his hand over his heart during the anthem or the pledge.

Personally, I would tend to agree with him on this - however, given his position as a candidate for the Office of the POTUS, it's not unreasonable to expect that he observes these little nicities (such as a hand over his heart) when standing on a dais in front of a group of people.

That is kind of strange .... I mean, it's well within his rights, but seems sort of counter to his goal of being elected.
