Calvert County Board of Ed Elections

If any of the candidates are viewing, could you please post your position on special education in the Calvert County school system? And, also what you will do to improve the situation?

It is my understanding that we have an excellant special education program in Calvert County.

In fact I believe that if anyone offered a real way of improving it then it would have already been implimented.

If you have any suggestions then I am sure they would be happy to consider it,

and if anyone has a legitimate complaint then they do have ways of addressing any problems too.

The entire tri-County area has very nice schools in every way.

My only concern is in the overcrowding of the schools and using those horrid trailers for classrooms and I would like to see that improved.

Obviously they don't because it hasn't worked on you.

I agree with this. It's a problem when you see these trailers not having air conditioning or heating.

Building more schools is the only logical option, but when the socialists have cut funds for your county's school system, you know, there's only so much you can do.

It's all MoM's fault.

There's a reason I posted this. It's not

working, people are afraid to say anything, and many, many issues are pushed under the carpet. There have been several attempts/offers for improvement. The teachers do what they can, but without support from the Board of Ed, it's impossible. They don't consider suggestions. And if you are running for Congress, you need to at least accept that a constituent could be telling you the honest truth.

Who would you like people to go to? The BOE doesn't return phone calls, emails.

The BOE is more show than substance because they do not have much in real power.

And I find the same problem every where of people afraid to say anything. Fear is usually a lack of faith.

The fact is that you are not telling what your complaint is either.

If you mean you object to the BOE pushing stuff under the carpet, and the BOE not taking suggestions, and etc., then that is because the BOE is a weak part of the system.

I use to give written statements and complaints to the BOE and that gets even less attention, one has to speak at the public meetings and then they only give about 5 minutes to each speaker, and the person has to come back to next public meeting and speak up again and again.

You too can run for a seat on the BOE your-self, and do it yourself.

When I ran for commissioner two of the candidates ran against me....

I also have had several collisions with one of the other candidates....

So let me just say... I am going to ask these questions....

1. Do they have a child in the public school system?
2. Do they have a child in special education?
3. Have they associated themselves with any PAC groups in the past that might taint their positive example to the students?
4. How have they obtained their mailing lists now and in the past?
5. Have they made any stands for special interest groups that might have had dangerous consequences for children [i.e. arsenic in the water or traffic hazzards] for any reason?
6. What is their stand on the testing?
7. What is their stand on program promoting the publication "Heather Has Two Moms"?

I'm glad I'm not running... I would be way to confrontational...

Do any of you remember Patrick Flaherty? Or Bill Chambers?

Charles County wants to build another 92million dollar school instead of the standard 40million buck high school. North Point H.S. was budgeted as a $40M school, thrice that in the final cost. Can you imagine what this school will eventually cost? But it's for the chillum! Stick to the basics, and build three $40m schools instead of one super school.

And to top it off, Charles County residential home building permits dropped from 1000 to 600 ($16,500 per permit for schools). Mr. Bailey, BOE has proposed the permits be limited to 70 per year. Another genius at work! Of course, they haven't spent the permit money on schools, so it's no great loss. The taxpayers will just have to fund these idiot's mistakes again.
