As the largest employer in the region, Pax River’s contribution to St. Mary’s county’s economy is significant. Combined with the other bases, 62% of St. Mary’s employment is attributed to the military and 80% of its Gross County Product relies on military spending. St. Mary’s County receives nearly $30 million in local ‘piggy back’ tax revenue, which represents nearly 85% of all local tax revenue received. Federal impact aid grew 90% from 1993 to 2002 while the commercial tax base increased from over $150 million to nearly $300 million from 1991 to 2001.

JPC, you say that the Navy should pay to support the infrastructure, particularly the schools. What do you think the Navy's annual contribution to the schools should be? Please provide an amount in dollars.

I have never said that I want the Navy to pay for anything. In fact I do not want to accommodate the excessive growth at all. I want the new growth to stop and the plans for 25 more years of excessive growth to be stopped. I do not want the Navy to pay for our infrastructure - what I want is for the Navy to stop overloading the present infrastructure that we have now and the infrastructure that the Navy expansion is overloading now.

The Navy isn't overloading anything. It's dead-beats like you that are placing the greatest burden on our society. If we didn't have to take care of the likes of you we would have funds to solve other problems.

Make up your mind. Do you want the Navy to be a good neighbor, or do you want them to leave? As a good neighbor, they would make sure the infrastructure is adequate. If that is not an option, then they must leave. Which is it?

Welcome to the Community Forum.

I find that there are plenty of Republicans on here if not mostly Republicans, or perhaps they are the most outspoken on here.

Of course there is a great supply of us critics too.
