Calvert County Govt - P & Z

Are any of these candidates for Commissioner or any other relevant position going to take any action regarding the Calvert County government?

Especially dealing with planning and zoning and the outrageous crap that goes on down there?

I am 2 years into a horror story just trying to get 1 acre of land that has been in my family since the 30's approved for building.

I also know I'm not the only person having problems. One of my co-workers has been fighting with the county and the surveyors for almost 5+ months now just to get a permit for a pool.

I heard Mike Benton has strong feelings on these issues, I would like to know his position as well as the other candidates. Calvert Co. government wants to act like a "big government" and it's not. Something has to give.

You are correct that you're not the only one. It is going to be difficult to sort through the BS the candidates will throw at us but we know one thing, the present Board is asleep at the wheel. I do believe the Ethics Commission will shorten their political careers.

I can't speak for the other candidates... but I can tell you that I have some questions for P&Z and Planning Commission. They're quick to rubberstamp houses in CRE but others can't get through the system.

If you want to email me the particulars of the problems with your property, I would more than happy to look into it. I would also be happy to make some inquiries for the person trying to get a permit for a pool.

This brings up another issue too. Is it staff or the Planning Commission that is holding up the works or are they working at the "pleasure of the Board"? I know there were quite a few times over the last several years that I heard that phrase. Working at the "pleasure of the Board" may mean that the BOCC has some stake in the outcome of your building permit.

As for me... I can't guarantee that I can or would have an answer you would want to hear... without knowing what you want to build and where.
