Let's talk about Education again... I have stated that I think one of the keys to success for our schools would be a stronger policy concerning the involvement of parents...

That means, IMO, that if a child starts to fall behind, the parents are called in early in the process.

I've been looking into some other partnerships that might be helpful and Boys & Girls Clubs keep coming up in the search. They have been keeping records. The kids who attend Boys & Girls Club after school have a better grade point average then those who are in a latch key environment.

Any comments?

A lot of the problems we're having with regard to education is that the parents don't give a crap. They'd rather blame the teacher than work with their kid toward academic goals. This is what happens when the "Me Generation" is allowed to procreate.

Lack of parent involvement may be some of the problem but the other is that teachers no longer have control of their classrooms and the kids know it. Even if you only have 15-20 kids in the class if 1 or 2 are extremely disruptive how well do you think the other kids are learning. The teacher is most likely dealing the the problem kids and paying little attention to the others.

Sometimes parents take "being involved" in their kids education too far. I think if parents would stop thinking that little "Johnny" is the perfect child and the problem is with the school/teacher etc you would probably have less kids falling behind because the teachers could actually teach!

We watched the Dog Whisperer last night. One situation was a middle school teacher and Caesar related the disciplining of her dogs to that of her class.
Teachers (the dog owner), "need to project an image of strength and confidence, and then you have control"!

I have always tutored/mentored "at risk" kids at my school. For 2 years I had joined the mentorship program set up by the school (before that, I was just doing it on my own), then the Big Brothers/Big Sisters came into our school and I wasn't "encouraged" to continue any mentorship at all.

It's sad when a "club" has to come into the life of a child to take care of what the parents should be enforcing at home, latchkey or not.

The parents are responsible for the child, period. Unfortunately, in the environment today, I do think that uniforms and ass whipping need to come back into play, if only to make the teaching arena more hospitable.

Nasty times, huh? The parents are at fault, and so is government, which ties the teacher's hands. If it's going to get any better, they need to work together.

Becky? This is a better platform than affordable housing and worrying about the "puppy mills". I've eaten dog in Asia, and it's good.

I say, save the kids, before we start marinating and grilling them.

It's unbelievable how many parents have that "Not my kid" attitude and if the school tries to do something, the parents cry, scream, hire lawyers, etc. Although some rulers to the back of the hands would be nice to see, I think those days are gone. Hire better lawyers for the school system to force the trouble makers out. How's that idea?

I was always more afraid of the teacher calling home then I was the "spanking" the teacher would have given me. That kept me in line.

I can be an Extremist, Left or Right depending on the topic.

Here is my proposal: Any woman who chooses to have a child needs to be responsible for their home schooling and all expenses. Before embarking on creating such said "child" a contract needs to be signed, and a life insurance policy set up, with the child as benefactor once they reach the age of 21.

It IS the woman who gets preggers, and if she chooses a loser, that's her problem, and therefore, she has the choice to abort after she had her "fun". It is also her fault, and the man should not have to pay. Instead, he should be protein to feed the hungry.

All welfare will be abolished, and people who can't make it will be turned into "food". Search "Soylent Green". If a family member chooses to take them in...fine, but no government handouts.

Violence? There are no second chances...you become protein to feed those that remain.
