LWV Forum - 9/7/06

I've seen a few scattered posts about the League of Women Voters Non-Partisan forum at Huntingtown High School last Thursday night, but I wanted to see if anyone else felt like sharing their opinions, particularly of the commissioner candidates.

I felt like one group of candidates came off really poorly, seeming either uninformed, trying to say a lot while saying nothing at all, or way out in left field. (Patrick Flaherty, Jan Horton, Dixie Miller, A.J Pitcher)

I think for the most part, the incumbents behaved pretty much as expected, though I will admit that Jerry Clark seemed very aggitated for whatever reason. They are a known quantity. I think highly of Wilson Parran, but the others I'm ready for a change. Especially Shaw. (Jerry Clark, Wilson Parran, Susan Shaw, Linda Kelley)

Then I felt like a few candidates really seemed on, and I learned some things about, and will probably be voting for Mike Benton, Bill Chambers, E. Lloyd Robertson, Becky Tice, and Charlie Donnelly.

Please give your summaries!

Please tell me how I faired, specifically. I do realize that I have work to do to become a better public speaker. I am informed on many of the issues, just have a hard time of articulating them.
If you would like further clarification of what I had to say, please ask.

Thanks for asking....

I really enjoyed listening to the new candidates for delegate out of PG County. I'm glad I don't have to decide which woman to vote for. I like them both.... Of course Mr. Brown did good too....

I thought Bartlett talked too fast for me to understand him. Brennerman seemed to know what he was talking about and he was confident. McKinney was on attack, not quite as sharp as the first too but definitely showed heart. Evans seemed to be a defensive bully.... that's quite unusual for him but it was not his best night.

On the Commissioners....

Right before the forum began, Tony O'Donnell came by and told us to enjoy ourselves.... and I took his advice. So I had a great time.

I don't trust Bill Chambers [because of CARL] but I agree he did an excellent job.

I'm watching it again.... so I'll make more comments in a while...

Hi everyone

I would love to be able to type what I felt, but please don't attack me. Deal?

My biggest interest is the new Sheriff. And gosh, I really would love to hear why people won't vote for Bartlett? Is it because he was appointed? Or I could have missed something and don't know all the details. Yes he did talk fast, but I thought he was speaking fast so he could get in what he wanted to say.

Sooo after watching Huntingtowns forum, I have concluded for myself that it's Bartlett or Brennerman. They both seem to know what they were talking about.

I am being as honest as I can here, I look at Bartlett's experience especially in PG County, to me it seems out of everyone he has more extensive experience. When he was Sheriff I thought he did an excellent job but we all judged him because he was appointed.

As for Commissioners, I am happy with (yesss) Linda Kelly and Jerry Clark. I too want to learn more; but I did like Charlie Donnelly and Frazier. Sooo I still have some decisions to make.

Thanks for allowing me to share.

You obviously haven't followed the money. Look at where Donnelly's campaign funds from. Over 50 % of the funds come from the Tiki Bar and family members of the owners. Donnelly has been preaching that the Tiki bar should be forgiven of there arrogance in not getting permits and Planning and Zoning approval for changes in their facility. He thinks the laws that he wants to enforce can be changed at will for his law clients. He doesn't tell you what fees he has collected from the Tiki Bar either. We don't need lawyers on the commissioners Board.

How about a link to the financial info on Donnelly?

I think Frazer's money trail is a little shaky, also.

And all of the incumbents, if I'm not mistaken, took big money from developers (thousands plus). Also interesting.

I don't know the link. I saw a copy of Donnelly's campaign finance report that came from the Election Board. I guess you can get it from them unless someone has a direct link.
