Mathis gets my vote. It would be nice to have someone that can actually have an opinion to hold the seat.

If St. Mary's County were a giant softball team, I would vote for Mr. Dement hands down. But I have witnessed, 1st hand at Commissioner meetings, that Mr. Dement doesn't know the first thing about representing the needs of the people in the county. He is very quiet and just votes for whatever the majority wants. He is a nice guy (no relation - lol) but that should not be the prevailing quality in an elected official. I believe that Ms. Mathis has a lot of good ideas and will actually be active with the issues of the community and not just there to collect a check to pay off her mortgage. I must say that I'm a bit surprised by the poll numbers so far. Anyway, I will be voting for her even though now I feel that most people will vote for Dement because it's easier than accepting change. Change for the better in my opinion.

No, in my opinion, Dement is whatever best suits him at the moment. He will side with Dems or Reps depending on if it will benefit him in some way. That's why it puzzles me that some people would vote for a candidate like that just because they "represent" that person's party even if they know that candidate is self-serving.

It's very interesting you folks only have 1-5 posts here.....This community is the "pulse"...however, you don't deem it necessary to post until it's election time.

**except for 2nd Amendment and Bad Girl

I would vote for Mathis

I would definitely vote for Mathis. What has Dement done for us since he has been in office? I don't hear him talking about his accomplishments during his debates...thats because he doesn't have many to talk about. He is known for softball...not what he has done for the good of our county. I also think its important to have someone who is educated and knows the education system since it is one of the main concerns in our county. Did Dement even go to college? Nothing against him if he didn't but Mathis' resume and education accomplishments speak for themselves. She was an educator for over 35 years. I have heard her speak and she is quite impressive. She doesn't have to read her answers off a card and rehearse like Dement. He had his chance to make a difference. My vote is for Mathis. This county can use some change for the good!
