| Am I misunderstanding your attitude, or are you acting like a douche for some unknown reason? ![]() You can better believe if I were running a business I'd do everything in my power to keep any competition away because the way I see it the nature of business is to increase my bottom line/profit or any obligation to shareholders. I'd do what I could to keep a union at bay, pay my workers the minimum I could get away with, and as long as my company was considered a person I'd take full advantage of it and support the politicans that would legislate in my company's favor. I'd also invest in marketing/advertising to convince consumers that my product is exactly what they need, they need a lot of it, and they need it now. Manipulation at it's finest! That's the nature of business. :shark: So, yeah, I guess I'm one of those whatever one of those is.

But back to the topic at hand. The stories about how oil companies and the automotive companies have conspired to destroy, hide or otherwise prevent some magic new technologies from ever seeing the light of day were written, IMO, by the same guy that authored the "Dubya blew up the twin towers wit dynomite..deed he did!".

So I take it you were indeed acting like a douche. I should have known you're one of those.

| Perhaps I am. My apologies. I know I'm very prickly any time the topic of "evil big oil conspiracies" or "businesses are bad" pops up...even if its only hinted at. In my experience, those have always been simply artificial themes created to provide a road for the socialist agenda to ride on...and that gets me riled up real quick. Sorry.

The thing I think we are hanging up on is how big businesses go about that. the old ones Gilligan refers to is the idea that oil companies, for instance, would engage in illegal acts to buy/steal and then hide from public view a fuel delivery method that would let a car achieve 200mpg. and that they might sabotage other energy generating methods like fusion or cheap efficient solar. Do you think energy companies might do that? If so, I agree with Gilligan, I just don't see that happening. Making your business better at what it does is one thing. But I really don't think that engaging in illegal practices is the norm.

We do not compete on price; we've won contracts where we were not the lowest cost solution. At one time we probably had about 6 or 7 competitors around the world. We outlived many of them and now only have perhaps two left. One of those we outlived was a subsidiary of a large British corporation that were given the direction and cash to beat us and put us out of business through predatory pricing efforts. They eventually failed, though not before putting a severe hurt on us before they folded their tent. That's the only time I've personally seen illegal business competition at work....and I saw it ultimately fail too.
