CB Radio Operators

I am fairly new to the SOMD Area and I was wondering if there are any CB Radio operators in the area.

Back in Houston (Where I was transfered from), we had a group that were pretty active in the evenings on SSB and AM.

I was wondering if there is an active channel in the St Mary's/Calvert area.

Thanks.

Im going to be putting one back in my truck here soon.

Back in the late 70s we used the CB like we do this forum. even had the get togethers.
I had one back when you still had to have call letters to use it.. I was KALM9071. The Silver Streak,, thus named because at the time I drove a silver 69 GTO and people used to say all they saw when I went by was a silver streak.. . 5 dollar fee to get it at the time.

going to put the twin whips on the truck, right behind the cab connected to the bed, only going to hook one up for use, but will have the two for looks.

Great, Thanks for the replies.

AM or SSB? (I'll venture to geuss that being below Channel 35, its AM)

I have to get my base station set up... (CB and HAM) when time permits.

I already have the truck going. Run a 9' whip on a '98 Nissan Frontier.

I'll flip it over to 30 and give a listen, the down side is I'm working 3rd shift, so I'll be limited on operating time when most people are probably on-air.

Can you even find one without SSB anymore? I started with a Robyn 19 channel, then moved up to a cobra with upper and lower SB, used a Golden Eagle power mic with it.

I also think it would be really fun if people started using them again.

they were great for traffic conditions, (just grab a trucker going the opposite way) directions, getting in touch with friends (before cell phones) and you could even contact the police if there was a need for them.
Before cell phones.

best part? air time is free.

I just need an antenna that after hooking to the bed of the truck will be over 11 ft at the tip to clear the camper, but less that 12.8 to clear low bridges

When you coming by to help hook me up? I trust you have the SWR meter?

Go to radio shack and get a 102" whip antenna and a roof mount for it with a spring. We can cut it down to any height you require if its to tall. I can hand build a transmatch if needed so you have perfect 50 ohm, 1:1 swr.

We use them on the group rides. Makes it a lot easier to keep a dozen or so bikes together in traffic

Yup, I have been there...

I am a General Class Amateur Radio Operator, but I enjoy AM more that FM...
Many (not all) Amatuer radio guys are not CB friendly...

There isn't much local AM anywhere on Ham Bands (except on 80 meters, which isn't very mobile)

I enjoy the 11 meter band (CB) for that reason, easily mobile and it is more layback.
