August SCOOP Publication Now Available
The Charles County Department of Community Services August 2012 issue of The SCOOP is now available online at Department of Community Services | www.charlescountymd.gov. Printed copies are available at your local senior center.
The SCOOP contains news, special events, and trips. This issue features Grandparent's Day, Treasurer the Chesapeake, a belly dancing workshop, and a concert by the Southern Maryland Band.
The Waldorf Senior Center will be hosting Grandparent's Day on Thursday, August 16 from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. Mandy the Clown is back, unicycle and all. She will keep you laughing and dancing while she wheels around you, walks on stilts, dances on stilts, and shares laughs with you as only Mandy can. Lunch will be hot dogs, mac 'n cheese, fruit cups and ice cream. There will be games throughout the center with special prizes. This event is sponsored in part by Senior Services of Charles County, Inc. and the Waldorf Senior Center Council. Registration deadline is August 9.
Senior Centers in August will host a special day of events aimed at educating and celebrating life in and around the Chesapeake Bay. Aside from being a great source for seafood and recreation, the bay is a valuable environmental resource, vital to a balanced ecosystem. The Chesapeake Bay is North America's largest estuary (an area where fresh and salt water mix) and the world's third largest. From north to south, the Bay is roughly 200 miles long.
Plan to attend a Senior Center to take part in this special event. Enjoy a delicious luncheon of cranberry juice, oven fried chicken, crab cake, corn on the cob, pacific blend vegetables, dinner roll, tasty dessert and iced tea.
This Senior Center event will take place on Thursday, August 23. Please view the SCOOP online at Department of Community Services | www.charlescountymd.gov for the individual Center activities planned for the day. Registration deadline is August 15.
