Homeowner questions

A. I want to replace the painted trim around my doors with stained trim.

1. What's easiest, use paint remover on the painted trim and stain it or buy new trim and stain it?
2. The painted trim is already cut to fit.

3. Would it need sanding before stain?

B. I want to replace my kitchen countertops.

1. Do they make a laminate I could glue over the existing or do I have to buy new?

A
1. Replace trim, stain prior to install, fill trim holes, apply polly after install.

B
1. Buy new counter tops.

Thank you both.

I concluded replacing the trim is the way to go since I want to do the baseboard too.

Your painted trim is probably "paint grade" trim meaning that it either has been pieced together with finger joints or if it is newer it is MDF. Stain grade trim costs more because its one solid piece.

Thanks. I would have bought the cheap stuff...LOL

Just measured the counter tops. I don't think I can replace those myself.

Sure you can. Putty knife to losen the back splash. Crawl in the cabinet and take out the screws. Lift it off.
