When to start seeds?

This will be my first spring here. I would like to start some seeds (indoors) in advance, but I don't want to start them too early. Everything I read says not to plant until after the last frost----When does that usually happen around here?

If you go up to Wentworth Nursery in Charlotte Hall, stop and talk to Sally O. She is the greenhouse manager and can answer all your questions about growing seeds.

Thank you! I really like using local businesses. I can't wait to start planting!

Go ahead and start your indoor seedlings. I usually start outdoor plants in early to mid April. Sometimes the last snow fall around here will be March or April.

I used to have a seed bed outside with a glass cover and plant everything from seed, but the expense of putting new topsoil in every year and paying for the seed wasn't worth it. For a very cheap price I can fill up the garden. Zimmermans, just North of Leonardtown on Rt 5. Everything you want.

What kind of seeds ?

Avg. last feeze.......April 20'th.

No "summer" plants are safe to plant until after the first of May....

It does get expensive, but it's something that I really love doing. I could plant year-round where we used to live. This climate is such a change for me. With veggies, I have better luck with good quality seed, rather than just what they happen to have at the store. However, I have found some really pretty flowers at Target, etc. I will definitely try Zimmermans, thanks for the info. I can't wait to get started!

Thanks for the info. I am planning on planting some veggies and also some new flowers that I found. I haven't had much luck starting flowers from seed indoors, but doing the veggies early makes spring planting so much better.
