Heater thermostat on the fritz

I have one of those fancy programmable thermostats (a Honeywell) and something's wrong with it. Yesterday the heat went off and where it's supposed to display the current temperature, it says "-AC". Even when I turn the fan to On instead of Auto, the heat won't come on.

Anybody? Is this a simple fix or do I need to call the Burch people?

PS, I changed the batteries in the unit and checked the breakers.

I think it's trying to tell you that you have lost your mind! Why in the world do you want the heat on?

Did you check the breaker? Never mind....

Do you have an emergency oil burner switch?

You flip the switch(usually has a red plate on it)?....It looks like a light switch and is found around the unit itself

"AC", maybe for Air Conditioning??? Is it in the A/C mode, not the heat mode?
And this is probably way too much to ask, but do you have the manual that came with it? It would tell you what that code meant.

I does sound like it's telling you it has no voltage to the furnace or control unit so since the breakers are good and like onebdzee said, the switch is on, you'd better call someone.

Apparently not good enough. It happens that my folks are here, and my Dad pulled out the owner's manual (what a crazy thing to do!) and saw that if the temp shows -AC, it means that the unit is running on backup power. So he went down to my breaker panel, found that the one for the oil burner was tripped, reset it, and we have heat now.



But I learned something, so that's a good thing!
