| Aps, Off topic but you seem really knowledgeable about all this - have you heard of the "green switch" ( I saw this on "Life with Ed" too) - it's supposed to allow you to shut down all the vampires in your home when they are not in use (most commonly when you leave the house.) Just a master switch that shuts down specific outlets, that you specify when installing. If you can't tell I'm on the look out for new ways to conserve energy in our home with the price of EVERYTHING going up Both of these ideas really struck me, but I don't know that I'm capable really understanding it all :( I can't help but to think of them as an investment if they can deliver at least a reasonable savings :) Even more off topic and I'm not even sure that we are legally aloud to do it, but I've also been trying to figure out if you can keep a cow on our 1 acre, hahaha - my husband is NOT buying this idea, even if I were a loud to legally, hahaha. If we could we would be the farmette -ette, In my wishful mind we could obtain our own energy and grow our own food ![]() I'll let you know as I get more info from this company on what the costs involved would look like and what our expected savings would/could/should be :) |

| Hmmm... yeah I'm not looking to go that far *geesh* but I certainly wouldn't mind finding more economical ways to live ![]() Besides - I do think it would be cool to raise our food (probably healthier too!) But that's another thread and my husband is not digging the idea anyhow ![]() Aps, I just spoke to one of the reps from the company I posted earlier, get this - $35,000 ($23,000 after both the state and federal rebates) for a system that will provide only up to 400 Kw a month :( Like I said our average energy usage is 1500 KW so that's not even half for such an investment. I did ask, just curious, what it would cost for a system that could return the 1500 Kw we use (you know to be electric bill free) and I about fell out of my chair! It would run between $120-130 grand !! I just thought that was incredible! My rep said the state of MD just upped there incentive from $3000 to $10,000, he even said many states are offering incentives that will cover half of the system! I might keep my eyes and ears open for future incentive increases - but right now I don't think we can even dream of investing even the $23,000 grand for a 400 Kw payback. I was so excited about this idea too ![]() |
