Mattress/Boxspring

Looking to help a buddy out with a cheap/used mattress and boxspring. I checked out the classifieds here and not really what he is looking for. Do any of the second hand stores sell mattresses? When i had mine delivered they took the old one as part of the delecery service, does anyone know what they do with them?
Thanks

Tell him to go to the yard sales or check Freecycle. However, this is one thing that I would not get from someone I did not know. Eew.

I have seen mattresses and box springs at many of the 2nd hand/thrift shops around here (mechanicsville-leonardtown)

I thought there was some kind of regulation or something that you couldn't sell a second hand mattress or boxspring commercially? You can sell them privately, or yard sale, but I didn't think a "store" could do that.

Someone look into that, and get back with us will ya?

Association Calls For Stricter Enforcement of Used Mattress Laws

The state of Maryland, which recently repealed its bedding law, is another example cited by ISPA where local regulators are not enforcing used bedding regulations. "ISPA finds this development in Maryland to be deeply troubling given the significant and persistent problems posed by renovated mattresses," said Dick Doyle, ISPA President and CEO. "Stronger state enforcement will alert consumers when they are buying a product that has been used by other consumers. This will allow consumers to better protect themselves and their families."

Hmm not sure about that. This was probably about 3 months or so ago that I saw a few at the one in Mechanicsville.

According to what I'm reading, if a place sells a used mattress, it must be commercially cleaned. I find it hard to believe the second hand store is spending the $$ to have this done.
