Cicadas

are coming, cicadas are coming.

A different brood from the one that came out a couple of years ago is expected to come out this year.

How so? Ew. Don't care! There were cicadas down in FL when I lived there - or something similar to them. Had the red eyes, anyway. We had a bike path we would ride on that went thru some wooded areas. OMG those things were everywhere. I nearly wrecked my bike once when I thought one had gotten in my hair! :shiver:

You must not have been around when that one brood emerged years ago. I couldn't walk with out stepping on several at once. It looked like the ground was moving. The noise was cool though. Not like the normal cicadas (these had red eyes), it sounded like a space ship (in old scifi movies). Loud as heck. I had my kids sweeping them off the drivway and filling buckets to toss out in the woods. Dodging them when they were flying was a full time job. They were due back in 2004, but I don't think it happened much down here.

I would get a bucket of them and feed them to the chickens, peacocks and turkeys. They would run over each other to get to them, they loved them so. I've only seen a few shedded skins so far, haven't heard them yet either.

What do you mean they don't hurt your plants? They kill off young trees and the small branches and twigs of older trees. They destroy shrubs and bushes and fruit plants (blueberries, blackberries and respberries).

cover your vulnerable plants if they are coming en-mass this year.
