Yeah, just had to have my water tank under the house replaced. No water. The bladder in the tank went poof. $1000.00 but I called them on a Saturday, they were there the same day, diagnosed the problem and came Sunday and replaced it. Calvert Pump and Well.

I have 4 old pressure tanks under the house and a half dozen pressure switches. Saw no need to drag them out.

I am now hooked into my neighbors, so I have water until the hose freezes.

Just keep the water trickling if the temps drop and it should be fine.

Looks like the pump has an internal short to ground. $2200 or so. Near the amount I figured.

So the pump IN the well has to be replaced??

Submersible Well Pumps - Well Pumps - Grainger Industrial Supply

Is it worthwhile to look into doing it your self??

I've watched them do it before. Does not look easy. I could probably hoist it up using a tripod and winch, but it's over 200' of PVC. They use a truck with a boom and winch. Being lazy I will let them do it. Plus I think you need permits to mess with a well.

It's MD, you need a permit to scratch your ass.. that part is a given..

Didn't realize they used rigid PVC.. had a friend of mine replace his in PA, and it wasn't a "flexible" hose, but it was pliable enough to pull it out by hand and wind it around his front yard.

Yeah, different companies use different methods. Winslow will use the stuff you are talking about. I think Patuxent uses PVC. Flexible black pipe, one man operation. Easy-peasy. Sort of.

They both say their method is better of course. Real deal is, the flexing of the pipe when the pump turns on will likely cause PVC to crack over time. I may also cause the flexible stuff to rub on the well casing and wear a little hole in it. Causes you pump to run a lot and other stuff like crud in your water when it gets bad. So neither is perfect.

I'd hate to see the labor charges for that bill.
