Could you primer over it and paint afterwards?

they make a paste you put overtop of the wall paper to remove it, after you score it. I've done it many times. Not too much work. It's better to remove the old stuff instead of taking a chance wasting new paper if it doesn't stick or doesn't look good.

I don't drink. This weekend is booked. I have community service to do for my bad girl behavior.

and since it's a bathroom, I'd think it would be easier to remove from the constant moisture of the shower/tub.

With a little help from one of those hand-held steamers.....maybe.
You might have to watch for mold/mildew; and possibly even having to replace drywall.

Edit: Which is why many will paint their bathrooms with latex paint, instead of wallpapering.

If it isn’t textured or torn you can paint over it – I’ve done it before. Use an oil-based primer (OIL BASED NOT WATER-based) and after that dries well, you can paint over it with a latex paint.
