The US is divided into different climate zones and we happen to be in zone 7. Our average last frost date is April 15th, so you're pretty safe to plant anything now. You just have to watch out for the occasional nippy night and protect anything that is susceptible to cold, like tomatoes, by covering them with some sort of protection like plastic to keep them warm.

If you buy vegetable seeds, most packets have on the back guidelines for when the best time is to plant in your area because some don't germinate until the soil warms up enough in the spring. If you buy plants, you're pretty safe to plant them anytime and just protect them from those chilly nights.

Good luck and happy growing!

DH started ours a month ago with indoor plastic greenhouses. Then he put them in large planters - bringing them outside when the weather is good and inside at night, gradually keeping them outside longer and longer. He'lll be transplanting them to the outdoor garden as soon as we get a truckload of top soil.
