SOMD Bridal Expo

Back in October I sent an e-mail to Bob at the Bay District Firehouse about the Bridal Expo in January. I do makeup on the side and I am a distributor for another company and thought the Bridal Expo would be perfect for some advertising. I sent an e-mail requesting an application to become a vendor and guess what I was told, NO! They only allow the vendors they've had in the past apply and after 1 December they would send out applications to NEW vendors based on how many vendors they had per category. Well I never heard back so I gave Bob a call today and guess what??? They only had one spot left and he said he "just picked another vendor he thought would work best".....what?!?!

First off, am I crazy for thinking that he shouldn't just shut out all new vendors?? Shouldn't applications be sent to anyone who wants them and the first people to respond and/or pay the fee should be able to reserve a space?? I even asked how new vendors ever have a chance, and he had no answer, other than "I may make some changes next year". What a joke!

Guess I'll be posted up in the parking lot

Honestly, do not even waste your money on a booth there. I went last year. I was not impressed at all. I have no clue why I'd expect BDVFD to host a decent bridal show.

Was more hoping to promote my make-up biz, not that many MUAs in the area, especially those who airbrush......thought it would really help.....I guess not.

Really?? I thought it would be pretty good just because it's the only bridal expo in the area. This makes me feel better, I don't feel like I'm missing out on as much and I'm kind of glad. That's what they get for not opening it up to ALL vendors. Basically if you weren't in the first year, you never have a chance of getting in.

I think that would be something much desired for bridal parties. How do you advertise now? Have you considered doing a spot on Metrocast channel 10?

There was one in Wildewood last year too. If I hear about it coming up I'll let you know.

Eek. Now that's definitely a waste of money. Who really watches that?

Capital Clubhouse in Waldorf is hosting one in September 2013. I know it's a long way off but they are accepting vendor applications now. Go to Capital Clubhouse - Events

Yes, I did pretty well this past summer/fall. Mainly, I've done everything through word of mouth. I do have a website, and I do have a FB business page, but I've been kind of stuck on where to go from there so to speak. I haven't focused too much on advertising, mainly because I have a full-time job and make-up is something I do mainly for enjoyment but I would like to take it a bit further. I hadn't though of TV advertising, but maybe I could do a spot where I actually show a bit of what I do?? That would be pretty awesome.
