Unhappy Anne Arundel Officer Killed in St. Mary's Crash

Mechanicsville, Md. (AP) - Authorities in Saint Mary's County say an Anne Arundel County police officer was killed over the weekend when his pickup truck ran off the road near Mechanicsville and hit an embankment.

John Heidenberg, 35, died at the scene. Heidenberg was an off-duty narcotics officer. A passenger had minor injuries.

Heidenberg was southbound on Yowaiski Mill Road when his truck spun out of control, hit the embankment and partially ejected him. The accident remains under investigation.

People fly down this road! It amazes me. Right through a residential neighborhood.

Heard about this on the radio. They said it was a 1940-something pickup and that he was giving a ride to a prospective buyer. They said he veered off the road for some unknown reason and they are checking the brakes and steering. They passenger only had cuts and bruises.
