Place to use metal detectors

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to go to use metal detectors?

I have been detecting for many years, I will pass on a few things and if you PM me an email addy or phone number we can chat more in depth. The first thing is etiquette. Never hunt without THE OWNERS permission! And never go to your buddies site without him after he introduced you to a good site. In Maryland it is very restrictive on state owned property and you WILL get in trouble. Federal lands, National Seashores (Chincoteague/Assateague for example) and designated historical sites are also usually off limits. There are some very good informative websites (Thetreasuredepot.com is one). Most detectorists are willing to help and provide advice. Also, research of old maps, talking to the old couple next door and perserverance are helpful. Now, what are you looking to find? Civil war relics, coins and jewelry, caches? Where do you want to hunt? On beaches, fields, old home sites, underwater? Keep in mind, you will hunt hours to find the nice one! I hunted for a long time before I found my first bragging rights find. There are many metal detectors collecting dust in closets because the user didn't find riches the first few times out!!!! Sorry, long post, got carried away!
