Can you help me?

Good Morning everyone. I was hoping that someone in here can help me with a cat problem.
Both of my cats have been scratching at their ears alot lately. I have taken them to the vet for this problem before and all they did was clean them out. I hate seeing them in this pain. What is the best way to clean them out? I have tried a q-tip, but if you have a cat you know how that goes. Thank-you all for your help.

What does the stuff inside their ears look like? Does it have a smell? It could be mites or it could be yeast. I can't tell unless I know what we are working with. Let me know

Try finding some earmite drops at a pet store and see if that helps. I know it works on my mother-in-laws dog. She puts the drops in and rubs the ear to spread them around.

Yeah in one cat it does have a smell to it but not the other. The inside of the ears are black. Should I take them to the vet?

I would take them back to the vet and get them checked to make sure they don't have ear infections or yeast problems. I have 2 cats and none of them ever had this problem but they have had wax buildup and the vet cleaned it out.

Sounds like they have a pretty bad mite infestation. The one with the smell may have developed yeast on top of that. You can try the drops that were suggested and then get some women's yeast cream and treat the one with the smell. Also make sure to put some mite medicine on the tips of their hind toes so when they scratch they don't reinfest themselves. If treating them this way doesn't help then yes get them to the vet for help. Good Luck!

Thank-you so much!!!! I never thought of putting medicine on their toes for when they scratch. I am going to go to PetSmart at lunch and try it out over the weekend. Thanks again all!!!

My kitties had the same problem awhile back and the vet gave me some type of solution to use but they said not to use q-tips but to use cotton balls so you don't injure their ear drums. I know that's not really what you're looking for, but it seems like you really care about them so I thought I'd let you know.

Good luck

kittyburrito!!!! we had to do that with our older cat several times. just catch the cat unawares, wrap body and pointy bits(i.e. claws) in a thick blanket several times, then commence cleaning.

this process is best done by 2 adults, one to hold the "burrito" and one to do the actual cleaning.
