Seems fair to trade oiling up one dipstick for another

I called up the dealer and they apologized and said it wouldn't happen again and bring my ride back up and they will clean it. I cleaned it up my self since "running it back up the road" would mean a 40 mile plus round trip!

They should just fire the idiot who changed my oil. If he (or she) don't know by now to at least wipe their hands off before touching a customers car....gosh it pisses me off!

Wow - I feel a lot better now!
I work at a car dealership and things happen like that happen once in a while...nobody is perfect.

One time I did not have time to do it myself when we lived in Frederick. Dropped it at an oil change place (don't remember what one, may have been walmart) and got in the wife's van to go do some running around. Went back to pick it up and continue running errands. Looked in the rear view 1/2 mile down the road and it looked like a scene from a spy movie. Billowing cloud of white smoke following me. Immediately turned around and took it back. They neglected to drain the old oil before putting in the new. Stood and watched them re-do the oil change and then clean the engine this time.

We were going on a family trip, and it was about to snow so we wanted to take the 4WD instead of the van. I needed an oil change first, so I went to one of the local places.

Fortunately, my wife was following me as we left. She said there was something coming out of my car, so I pulled into the parking lot of United Rentals and shut it off. Opened the hood, and there was oil everywhere.

I called the place that did the work, and they sent out their "technician" () with a gallon of oil. He put the oil in, started it up, and it sprayed all over the ground. He looked at me like "what do you want me to do about it?"

I was finally able to convince him this wasn't normal, and he found that the oil filter gasket had slipped off. He ran over to Auto Zone, bought another gallon of oil, and sent me back to the shop.

As I left, I told the kid that he really needed to clean up the oil he had spilled. He never did. I saw the remains there for months afterward.

They cleaned up the engine as well as they could, but there was still the smell of burning oil from the residue for months. Their cleanup job also caused the alternator to fail, which made the last few miles of our trip exciting, with dim lights, in the snow, and the engine running lean due to low fuel pressure.

I went back to the place, and they cut me a check for the alternator. They said they'd do something about the kid not cleaning up the oil, but it was never cleaned up, and the kid was still there. They also gave me a coupon for a free oil change, but suprisingly enough, I never used it.

I realize that spilled oil and fingerprints are unsatisfactory service, but it could be worse.
