The field on the Calvert side is just about as good as it gets, next to having a paved surface.
They actually landed in the parking lot of that boat-launch ramp next to the bridge. It's paved, has clear access to the street, and being as it was mid-week, there was plenty of unoccupied space. I can't imagine a better place to land!

Yes, there was something on the side of the road but it was there already (it did not fall out of the truck, which by the was behind the motorcycle and not involved), vehicles were not breaking their lane to avoid whatever it was.

The boat ramp is under the bridge - doesn't seem safe.
Perhaps it was the gravel lot used by the Calvert Marine Museum??

Sometimes the trooper will land in the field on the other side of the fence, a little bit away from where they hold the art shows and that. We bring the ambos to the boat ramp under the bridge.

I walked over and saw where they landed. There's enough of the parking lot far enough away from the bridge, and there wasn't anybody parked within dozens of yards, so there wasn't any safety hazard. If it had been a weekend with the parking lot full, they probably woulda landed on that private property area that's often made available for parking for special Marine Museum events.

But anyhow, it's a very sad tragedy. I've done lotsa miles on motorcycles, and I understand how the Feel Of Freedom can lure you into thinking you've got the world of empty air around you, so you get to inadvertently following too close. My deepest sympathies are for the loved ones of the deceased.

Can someone tell me the name of the man on the bike? I heard it was a friend of mine, and I want to make sure it wasn't.
