Looking for Firewood

OK well I have seen the threads about SMECO's increase and I know how much I spend in oil. I have a Fireplace in my basement that I guess I need to start using. I am afraid that most of my heat will go up the chimney but at this point I figure I can try it.

Does anyone know of anyone who will deliver some dry firewood and stack it for me? Approx what is the cost for a truck load?

I would guess $125 - $150. I would call around. There was a thread dealing with this issue about 2 months ago. Do a thread search.

J & J Firewood (John Kolbe) out of Chaptico. He delivered mine to Wildewood. It's was $65 for 1/2 a cord. He is a real nice guy.

Does your fireplace have the closure and the fan to vent heat out into the room, if not it will go up the chimney along with heat from the room!! At least that is what ours did. We borrowed a wood stove, put the pipe into the chimney and the heat is wonderful. I won't need anymore oil with the heat that it is providing for us!!

The wood stove we borrowed is an ugly thing but with the money it is saving us, I can use that for a pretty one next season..

The house I had in NY had a "parlor" wood stove. The thing was HUGE and way too big for the room it was in. Had to damp it down just to be able to walk thru the room, but damping it led to creosote problems because I couldn't get a stack temp of 550 like it needed.
