Betty Currie---Liquor Board?

The Enterprise has a story stating that Our boy Roy Dyson has nominated Betty Currie for the Liquor Board, replacing its Chairman Charles Miedzienski.

Mr. Dyson who also nominated Ms. Currie for the College of Southern Maryland , Board of Trustee's during Ehrlichs term didnt give a reason for replacing Mr. Miedzienski and would not return Mr. Miedzienski's calls personally, had his Aide tell Mr. Miedzienski he he wasnt going to be reappointed because he 9Mr. Dyson) wanted to give someone else a chance.

I suppose that's a good enough reason in My. Dyson's minds.

Ms. Currie's appointment to the Board of Trustee's of the College of Southern Maryland was not made ,according to the article, because of Partisan wrangling in Annapolis. Of course there is nothing Partisan about Roy Dyson, a Democrat, wanting to appoint Bill Clinton's ex-secretary to that board, nor to the Liquor Board. Mr Dyson seems hell-bent for some reason to get Ms. Currie a job in St. Mary's County by political appointment . Perhaps Ms. Currie has some special qualification for the Liquor Board ,if she does the article ,nor Mr. Dyson mentioned it, according to the artcile Mr. Dyson is just looking for diversity.

Shouldn't people on the liquor board have some sort of involvement with the industry? Liquor store, restaurant or bar owner? Rehab counselor? DUI lawyer? Cop or firefighter who deals with the aftermath? At least something other than paper pusher.

Most of them don't have or owned a liquor store, that would be a conflict. Not sure what Sen. Dyson is doing, but a change could be good. Not sure the Ms. Currie is the one, look at some of the past board members. Dalton Wood, Mr. Fenwick, none of them had any experience as owners or distributors of liquor. JMO

Liquor Board is just another springboard and resume filler for wannabe politicians, along the lines of Metcom or Public Works, Parks & Rec, anything else.

I have been saying this for years. The board is a joke, these people know nothing about what it's like to own or work in a liquor store or bar. Most if not all of them never even step foot in bars or liquor stores. Half the time they sit there with a blank look on their faces waiting for the boards lawyer to tell them what to say and do or they look to Pat for answers, the entire thing is a big joke and will be.

The County Commissioners arent an appointment. They have to be elected. If you dont like them run for the office,or put up a candidate you do like.
