IMO, credit unions generally have better interest rates for loans, savings, etc. If you have savings and want a higher return and you don't need instant access to it through an ATM, try ING Direct Orange Savings. Right now, their savings rate is 3.4% while banks are less than 1/2%. You just go online to transfer the money from your checking account into your ING account. Then if you need the money, you can transfer it back into your checking account.

and a checking, same deal...BUT, I do have a student checking...so it may (and probably is) different from a standard checking..

how the eff do you figure banks are less than .5%???? <<<edit: just looked it up...ok, maybe interest bearing CHECKING accounts are that low...but you cannot compare checkings interest to savings...thats like comparing savings to a CD....unless of course you are trying to sell ING accounts...

I have a 2.71 (was 3.some percent when I opened it) savings acc and it is NOT a CD like (I at least thought...) ING has...

Bank of America right now has .20% interest rate on its savings account. It is basically just somewhere to hold your money that isn't under the mattress, even if they are making plenty more than .20% off your money.

Bank of America is having a special right now. Open a checking account with a 100.00 deposit and after it's been open and active for 60-90 days they will deposit 75.00 into your account. And they are everywhere!
