I'm new..have a question about banks

I am about to separate from my husband and for the first time,EVER,need my own bank account. I have never even set foot inside a bank,he always handled everything. I would like to have a savings account and a checking account,as well as a debit card. I was wondering if anyone can offer me advice as to what is a good bank in this area. I would love a place that has branches elsewhere, such as Baltimore and D.C.,and one that is fairly straightforward. I am leaning towards Chevy Chase,by PetCo..and have heard horror stories about PNC.

I use BB&T in Wildewood. It does the job for me. I am not sure if their hours aren't too great...or if all banks usually close by 6pm, either way...that kinda sucks cuz I don't get off until 5-5:30...

Other than that everything there is good for me

I've used Chevy Chase before and never had any problems with them, of course, I've also never had any problems with Bank of America, although most people have!! If you work for the government or something like that, you may want to look into a credit union account somewhere because their fees and account requirements tend to be lower.

Bank Of America is another good option (they've been robbed the least in our area ), but seriously they are in all the areas you requested...

Avoid Maryland Bank and Tri-County bank. They are still in the 60s with their banking.

Don't jump into anything. Almost all banks offer the same services, although personally, if you can get into a credit union, my personal opinion, they're better.

Banking is about personal service. I like a bank or credit union that knows you by name when you walk in (even if you're a new client).

They need your money to make money, not the other way around. Take your time, go to any strip mall and check out a few places.
