| I heard they were phasing out History completely. ![]() But seriously....why don't you call the school and ask?

| They don't have textbooks for every history student at any of the counties high schools. They didn't have any last year either. Each teacher has a class set and some have less than that. Apparently history isn't important anymore, oh wait it's not that it's not important, it's just that there's no standardized testing that brings in federal money for the school system. |

![]() If I remember correctly, even AP bio only had a class set...and smart kids DO bring money into the school ![]() I don't know the answer to the history question though...why asking so late into the year? Did kid JUST start bringing home this book, or has it been the same one all year?

| I knew they didn't have enough text books and was curious earlier in the year, but never bothered to ask. Now I am tutoring, and when the student checked out a textbook and brought it home, it has a clipped corner and "For Review Only" stamped on the front. Which, if it is being used for instruction, is probably a violation of their agreement with the publisher. Having worked as a teacher, I know most school districts are very careful about violating license agreements and usage agreements, even making sure you don't copy material on the copier unless it is authorized. So, I found this very curious. Before, I thought they were just short on a few textbooks. Now, I'm thinking they asked for some for review, intending to use those for the school instead of purchasing a set. Which would be really cheesy. Oh and by the way, my kid has never brought one home because she doesn't have it in her locker. We use the internet to go over historical events she doesn't understand from class because we don't have the text as a resource. Last edited by CalifrniaDreamn : 03-27-2008 at 09:37 AM. |

That just goes to show how short the school is on funding (not just that school either, public schools in general)

| who needs textbooks, the working assumption is the kids don't read them anyway.

| That's pretty funny! Mostly I was also wondering if they just check out the sample books, and keep the other "class set" in the classroom. Just curious why they don't have books. |
