I didn't realize those great inventions required lights in the room to function, you'd think they could've designed them a little better. Or do you not know where the buttons are on your controller/remote and have to look at it to play/watch TV?

I really could care less what anyone does tomorrow night, feel free burn as much energy as you can during that hour to offset the others.

Well the Earth Hour folks didn't specify about lighting rooms with appliances, so you're probably in the clear.

I was generally referring to the fact that you can still do most anything in your house without the lights on, like watching a car race, or playing video games, or even surfing SOMD.com

I live in an old farm house far off the road, it's pitch black, even with the light of my laptop on or a TV, it's still difficult to see. Its senseless for me to turn on 5 tvs for light when I have a light right in the same room which are probably even more cost/energy efficient than the tvs. I do wish you and your little friends all the luck in the world though

I won't need lights for that

I don't understand something here. What good is it going to do to turn off lights? Do you think you are "saving" electricity? No, you are just creating a dangerous situation where people will injury themselves because they can't see where they are going.

Turning off lights is NOT like turning off your car. If you turn off your car, you save the gasoline you would have consumed. If you turn off your lights it makes no difference. The electricty is generated regardless of wheter you use it or not. All you are doing is saving yourself $.83 on your next SMECO bill.

I live in a community with 500 homes, and even when I turn out the lights - it's pitch black.

In your situation, I would also advise that you go ahead and use your lights tomorrow night, I don't want you to injure yourself tripping over something!

Funny that you make that comparison, on the Web site for Earth Hour they stated: "In 2007, Australians in Sydney turned off their lights for one hour. The energy savings was the equivalent of taking 47,000 cars of the road."

Again, if you don't want to/don't think you can safely/don't know how/don't understand what lights are/etc. then you can ignore Earth Hour as if it doesn't exist.
