Info from Earth Hour US - Earth Hour 2008

On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund.

Earth Hour was created by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and in one year has grown from an event in one city to a global movement. In 2008, millions of people, businesses, governments and civic organizations in nearly 200 cities around the globe will turn out for Earth Hour. More than 100 cities across North America will participate, including the US flagships–Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco and Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

We invite everyone throughout North America and around the world to turn off the lights for an hour starting at 8 p.m. (your own local time)–whether at home or at work, with friends and family or solo, in a big city or a small town.

This Saturday at 8:00PM?? Good, then I will make sure that every light in my house is on and every car I have is running.

Cobra... I bet this post would go over big at move-on.org and it's brethren sites..

No I'm just refusing to jack up my electric bill for your one hour defeating the purpose cause But rest assured I probably wont' use any lights from 8am to 6:30 pm Guess that doesn't count though because it has to be for only ONE hour and at night time :

And doesn't watching the races really defeat the purpose? All those gas guzzling racecars and race trucks?

People could save so much more energy by turning the thermostat down in the winter and up in the summer. But instead, people will turn off their lights for an hour and think they actually made a difference. What a waste.

Change requires effort. The easier something is, the less it will work.

I refuse to make a symbolic gesture, so I will not be participating.

Instead, I will continue to try to save money. If that saves the environment at the same time, great.

As I stated before had you read more than the first post...

"I really could care less what anyone does tomorrow night, feel free burn as much energy as you can during that hour to offset the others."

Thank you for your alternative Web site suggestion, but I won't be losing any sleep over whether or not this "goes big".

"Funny that you make that comparison, on the Web site for Earth Hour they stated: "In 2007, Australians in Sydney turned off their lights for one hour. The energy savings was the equivalent of taking 47,000 cars of the road."

Again, if you don't want to/don't think you can safely/don't know how/don't understand what lights are/etc. then you can ignore Earth Hour as if it doesn't exist. "

I understand perfectly what a light is and how it works...perhaps the lights are not on in your own head. The point I was making is that turning off your lights to save energy does not have an impact on the amount of energy created. The so called "carbon footprint" is the same whether you have your lights on or not. The ENERGY is already expended by the time it reaches your light switch. You only save yourself a few cents on YOUR bill.
An energy savings of 47,000 cars off the road is only in your head. The energy was still used to create electricity regardless of usage....

If you are REALLY concerned about our planet you should be worried about the dangers of DiHydrogen Monoxide. Here's the site:
