Earth Hour 2008

Saturday night - 8 PM

Can SOMD make a difference by helping in this energy-saving cause?

Info from Earth Hour US - Earth Hour 2008

On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund.

Earth Hour was created by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and in one year has grown from an event in one city to a global movement. In 2008, millions of people, businesses, governments and civic organizations in nearly 200 cities around the globe will turn out for Earth Hour. More than 100 cities across North America will participate, including the US flagships–Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco and Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

We invite everyone throughout North America and around the world to turn off the lights for an hour starting at 8 p.m. (your own local time)–whether at home or at work, with friends and family or solo, in a big city or a small town.

Even I have better things to do on a Saturday night at 8:00 than sit in a dark house for an hour Just doesn't sound like a fun thing

No. IndyCar Series on ESPN2HD live is more important.

The lights might be off, but I'll have ESPN2HD cranked up watching Danica chasing her first win in the biggest IndyCar World Series event in over a decade.

Trust me, I don't hug trees either. It just seemed like such a simple concept that when performed en masse could actually make a difference.

...Going to fuel up my gas guzzler now...

Nah. I think that playing drinking games, Wii, listening to music, and finding the next drink will be priority. Gotta love spring time get togethers.

At least you understand the concept!!

No one said to flip the main breaker switch to your house and sit lonely in the dark (like many a SOMD'ers Saturday nights).

The Wii's still the greatest invention since sliced bread.

Wii, NASCAR, NHRA and IndyCar Series are more important than saving energy.

I didn't state main breaker. If you are referring to me, I simply stated I have better things to do than sit in a dark house (i.e. turning off lights as requested) for an entire hour on a Saturday night. I could light each room up with tv's and other applicances, but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of saving electricity?
