Driving stupid and speeding past him is disrespectful. Passing him is not...especially if you're not breaking any laws. Chances are, he's probably driving slow to eat something on the run, converse on the radio or phone.

Whats disrespectful is if YOU are holding up a cop and won't GTF over in the right lane so he can pass. I see that crap all the time. If you're in the right lane and see this...make a damn hole so folks can get over too! Amazes me how stupid people are when a cop gets behind them...they'll slow down to 45-50, and freak out/get scared.

there is nothing wrong with passing a cop if you are doing the speed limit. i think in most cases, cops wont pull over someone only going 5 mph over the limit either. yeah, you take chances when you pass a cop doing more than the speed limit, but i think if your only going a few miles an hour over the limit while passing him on a two-lane road on the left while correctly using your turn signals and he pulls you over... he's pulling you over because you hurt his ego, not because you driving wrecklessly.

Totally unsafe driving.
You should have gotten out and yelled CITZENS ARREST! Like Gomer did to Barney on Any Griffith Show.

Momma always told me, don't pass police no matter what. Any why? Respect for the law - not because he'll pull you over for speeding (well, he might). But I don't get it when I'm behind a cop, people will attempt to, and successfully pass a cop and not get pulled over. No fair!
Driving all over this great nation of ours for work I have passed alot of cops. If I am doing the speed limit and catch up to them I dont hesitate to pull out and pass. The only time you can not pass an officer while doing the speed limit is when they have their Emergency lights on. There is no law that says you can't pass.. Same thing for police officers from other counties If not up to speed pass them...

I had a cop follow me last night from Pegg Road all the way down route 246 to the intersection of route 5. Right before the intersection he got in the left lane (I was in the right lane) and we both made a right at the light. Now he's in front of me. Half way up the hill, across from Dyson's he suddenly pulls over to the side of the road. I drive past, he gets behind me again. Follows me all the way to my neighborhood. I pull in, he turns behind me. I drive to my house, he passes by. WTF? I wasn't speeding, had my seat belt on, wasn't drunk or impaired, and used turn signals and stopped at the red lights. Was he just looking for a reason to pull me over? I think he was profiling
