Burning yard waste

Does anyone know off-hand if there is any type of law that prohibits buring yard waste in a 55 gal drum in Waldorf..??

i have massive amounts of limbs and stumps i need to get rid of.

301-645-3000 is the number for station 3 in Waldorf. give them a call and ask.

If you are in an area that has a homeowners association you should probably check with them. Or call your local fire department.

Good Old Chuck County didn't know...they kept telling me to call the Health Department.... I had a problem with three cheap neighbors who burned their trash in their backyard instead of paying for trash service. I finally contacted the govenor's office for an answer, here it is:

"The Maryland Department of the Environment's Air and Radiation Management Administration (ARMA) regulates the burning of trash and other debris to ensure that public health is not affected.

Under Maryland regulations, burning of ordinary household trash is permitted only in areas where no provision is made for public collection of refuse. Additionally, the open burning may not create dense smoke, and may not occur closer than 200 feet from any habitable dwelling or place where people work or congregate. Burning of any type is not permitted in cases where a general nuisance is created. A general nuisance is described as odors, solids, or gases being discharged into the atmosphere and unreasonably interfering with the proper enjoyment of one's property."

You can burn during the week between 4pm and midnight. The fire has to be extinguished by midnight. 12pm and midnight on weekends.

Yes - this is the law for household trash, not yard waste (leaves, branches, grass clippings) which does not fall into the rule.

The rules (commenst from somdguy and sprakysgirl) below is an extension of the household trash burn (in a container) AND the rule for yard waste burning.
