Thanks for all the hugs today.
It's always tough to hear news like this. My Mom has had Lupus since she was 19 yrs old, she's now 58. You're right - there is no cure but it is manageable. You and your family should know a lot more after her appointment - there are different types of Lupus and some are worse than others. My Mom has always led a "normal" life and her organs have not been affected. The biggest inconvenience she faces is that she needs to avoid being in the sun. Feel free to pm me if you need to chat.

Why is that? That will be hard for my mom as she loves to garden.

My Mom does, too. The Lupus my Mom has affects her skin so if she's in the sun, unprotected, her skin can become really blotchy. Her skin is more sensitive than ours is. She just takes precautions to be outside, uses high SPF sunblock, wears long sleeves if she's gonna be outside for extended periods of time, maybe wears a hat. She's always opted to sit in the shade when possible. Again, keep in mind that there are different types of Lupus so I'm not sure that your Mom has the same type. She should ask the doctor to be sure. My Mom doesn't even take meds for her condition, it's not always necessary.

I have to run out for a while but pm me if you like. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have, if I can. You should know more after the appointment, too. Hang in there, it may not be as bad as you think.
