Angie's List or Consumers Checkbook?

Anybody use either one of these? I'm thinking of subscribing to one or the other (heck, maybe even both), but I'm worried there won't be very many Southern Maryland companies detailed. Any experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just signed up for Angie's list last month to check out roofers. They didn't have any listed for southern Calvert/St. Mary's counties. The closest was in Ft. Washington. That roofer was listed in the local yellow pages and did come out and give an estimate. (We've gotten 3 so far, not going to be cheap)

That's what I was afraid of. Did you check out any of the other categories for local companies? How about the articles - have they been helpful at all?

Angies List or Consumer Checkbook

We just had our roof done as well as the siding and gutters - Certified Remodeling out of La Plata. They did an excellent job - cleaned up everything and were very timely - it took them 4 days. Owners name is Charlie - tell him the Ivory's sent you. I would highly recommend this company.

Try ROOFING BY GEORGE. They came highly recommended and I recommend them also. Prices were considerably lower than their competitors. George removes all the shingles, tar paper, etc., inspects the wood (replacing if necessary, is extra), places a self-adhesive membrane along all roof edges, then uses a high-quality paper (not your stsandard tar paper) before laying shingles. He doesn't use those cheap ridge vents either, his ridge caps are made from the same material as the shingles and match perfectly. He completed my townhouse and the neighbor's (since part of our roof is common) in under four hours. I only found three roofing nails when they were done. Try George - you won't be dissappointed!
