It is all truly awful.
The suspicion is that it was nothing more than a murder of opportunity so that some thug could earn his points by killing an unarmed man in front of his daughter and future family.

Thank you all again for you kind wishes and prayers. I am passing all of your prayers to both my daughter, grandchildren and to his fiancee and family.

In the face of this horrible tragedy, we have also experienced such unbelievable kindness.

It took me several hours to respond to you Gopher. I deeply feel your pain. I pray for you, and the entire family. There is such evil in this world.

Everytime I look at this young man's photo I feel as though I've seen him before. I recall a tall, blonde man in his kacki uniform with a tall blonde haired woman with him. They looked as though they'd stepped out of Bride & Groom and were elegant in their height and the manner in which they carried themselves. I used to see them always together usually at lunch time. Remarkable, memorable looking couple. The description 'striking' comes to mind. Please say that I am remembering someone else and not Lt. Cox and his former wife.

I am happy for you that Lt. Cox is not the man you remember. Todd was strikingly handsome, but was of average height with brown hair. Our daughter is also a beautiful woman but has never been blonde.

Allthough I am releived that the young man was not the one from my memory, I am still very sad. In my humble estimation it sounds as though Lt. Cox murder was an initiation into a gang so the executioner is not remorseful for his actions but happy as s*** to have made it into the club and onto the front page of the local newspaper. That is a possibility, but the shooter was beyond the age when gang members are usually getting their first kill. Hopefully whoever did it will do some bragging or someone that knows what he did will get in trouble and use that knowledge to bargain his way out.

My husband received an email about this on Friday from a former shipmate who was on the USS ENTERPRISE with your former son-in-law. My husband apparently got to the ship just after Todd departed.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family and his. This was such a senseless act of violence and we pray that whoever did this will be caught and punished to the fullest extent that the laws will allow.

Do you know when and where the funeral (or services) will be if they haven't occurred yet? My husband was trying to find out. (you can pm me with this if you would prefer.)

Thank you and God Bless.
A very proud Navy wife.

Vehicle description released...

The vehicle used in the execution of my former son-in-law was a Ford F-150 from the 90's. It was two tone with white on the top and bottom and I guess what Ford refers to as Calypso green (or whatever they called that sort of teal color used during those years) running down the center of the sides from the headlights to the tail lights.

The driver was described as a young African-American between 25-30 and between 6'-6'2".

I am updating this posting because I know several forumites live in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area.

The tornados that moved through the area moved the headlines away from this murder. My heart goes out to those that were injured or lost their property but the family and friends obviously want to keep some focus on this incident as well.
