Have to admit, at least in the Marines they called it a RUN, instead of a run/walk/bike like the AF.

the only thing that depressed me.. when I was in Basic at the age of 18, I looked at the APFT card, and said MAN, when I get ready to retire, this is going to be SOOO easy.. I'll have all afternoon to do the run.. MAYBE do 20 push ups, and 30 or sit-ups..

Then, as time progressed the Army kept increasing the minimum that at the age of 38, I had to do more push-ups, more sit-ups and run faster than I did when I was 18.

Of course I also didn't realize that in Basic Trng that was the last time the minimum would be considered passing..

Ft Jackson is where (in the 80's and 90's) they did co-ed basic for all the Personnel, Finance, Medical.. and the rest of the non combat arms related MOS'


I enlisted in 1979 shipped to basic Oct 1980 to Ft Knox Ky. Spent a wonderful 13 weeks there before shipping out to Fulda Germany.
