Bean, I use to have that issue constantly at my other home... basically my cable ran about 75' from the main trunk to my home. They did run a new line and that improved somewhat... of course they have various contractors working on these issues... I had some good ones and some really worthless ones... but one good one went out of his way... he checked connections and lines going to my main modem in the living room too. It mainly resolved the issue of it going out... so it is most likely on your end. it could be the cable going to your house, or it could be connections and lines inside your house going to your modem. It is very hard to troubleshoot and Metrocast will not help you. All they will see is that you are getting a powerful signal... goodbye! They won't stick around and see that it just simply dies out... If you are sure all your lines and connection within your house are good, you could ask Metrocast to re-run the line from the trunk to your house...

This question is for people with the Metrocast Cable for your Internet. We don't have the DSL option in our area and we've had the GMP, then Metrocast Internet for quite a few years. Of course they had some real serious issues back through 2002 to 2005. don't know about 2006 cause we weren't here, but we got their cable Internet turned on again last spring. We really don't see the connection going out like we use to... the issue now is the modem. We are on our third brand new modem since install last spring... And it appears I am gonna have to purchase another. The issues always point back to the modem, but I can not believe I am that unlucky to get 3 different brands new Linksys, Dlink and now a Motorola, but they were all cable modems with built in wireless... Anyway, the main issues before this current modem was that something was zapping them and losing ALL data and going back to factory settings or constantly losing ip connection. This was erradic. Now this current modem works ok except we have to unplug it and plug it back in to get wireless to connect... computers see the modem/connection... but sit there and show something about "acquiring ip address"... while a couple of other computers are connected wirelessly and operating fine... the only way to get the new computer connection online is to unplug/plug in the dang modem... I am considering purchasing another new modem, but this getting ridiculous...

Is others having any issues similar to this? Do you have to unplug/plug in the modem almost daily to get computers to connect wireless?

Thanks for any feedback or comments...
We had the same problem!!!! It went on for a year, then finally we discovered it was our computer, it had a bad "card" in the back??? I can not remember what it is called but I can ask my husband when he gets home. I know it cost like 28.00 and all was well after that!!! I will get back with you as soon as I find out!!

huh? This has nothing to do with one computer. I have several different computers that connect wirelessly to the cable modem... you are referring to something else...

I had cable installed recently and after a couple of problems it's all working very well. I had direc way before and it sucked. They (metrocast)had to come out a couple of times but gave me a window, I never had to wait all day

I've had the Motorola wireless modem for over 2 years now and no big problems using it with Metrocast.

I know that customer service is the pits when they are a monopoly. If you think they are bad, try dealing with Verizon on something.

And something that people do not realize is that we have a local county committee that is suppose to monitor the cable contract. According to the committee meeting minutes, they never have compliants. Or the complaints were given to Metrocast to work out because it wasn't part of their job. I think if folks start calling and complaining enough, the committee won't have any other choice but to investigate. The committee members can be found on the county website!
They run up to 300' for free.

I would contact Metrocast and have them verify the outside grounding and signal are good. Next I would ensure you have a good surge suppressor that your Modem plugs into. You could have ####ty power coming into your home that are zapping your modems. I have had my Motorola for over 2 years now with little to no problems and I've also only had to reset it a couple times . When I had signal troubles Metrocast came out and found the outside ground connection was severed. After they fixed it not only did I have zero issues but my speeds increased... Good Luck...

I am definitely having a similar issue. They told me it was my modem, but I don't believe them. We had 5 months of service issues when we got here last year, and finally went to the county committee meeting that oversees metrocast. That got some attention. The head guy for this area over saw the repairs. Turned out they had crimped the line in the box out at the street (it was closed inside the casing) damaging the line, and that had been the issue for months! They are the worst cable company I've ever seen in my moves around the country.
