Metrocast Cable Internet Issues

Folks, I am wondering if others are having the same issues as I am!

This question is for people with the Metrocast Cable for your Internet. We don't have the DSL option in our area and we've had the GMP, then Metrocast Internet for quite a few years. Of course they had some real serious issues back through 2002 to 2005. don't know about 2006 cause we weren't here, but we got their cable Internet turned on again last spring. We really don't see the connection going out like we use to... the issue now is the modem. We are on our third brand new modem since install last spring... And it appears I am gonna have to purchase another. The issues always point back to the modem, but I can not believe I am that unlucky to get 3 different brands new Linksys, Dlink and now a Motorola, but they were all cable modems with built in wireless... Anyway, the main issues before this current modem was that something was zapping them and losing ALL data and going back to factory settings or constantly losing ip connection. This was erradic. Now this current modem works ok except we have to unplug it and plug it back in to get wireless to connect... computers see the modem/connection... but sit there and show something about "acquiring ip address"... while a couple of other computers are connected wirelessly and operating fine... the only way to get the new computer connection online is to unplug/plug in the dang modem... I am considering purchasing another new modem, but this getting ridiculous...

Is others having any issues similar to this? Do you have to unplug/plug in the modem almost daily to get computers to connect wireless?

Thanks for any feedback or comments...

No problems with mine, since the up grade. Keep calling and have them send a tech out. I called them every week until they came out and fixed the problems I had with Internet and Cable.

We have metrocast cable and we don't have that problem. I know we've had our modem for a long time. If you want more info, I'd have to ask my husband. I just know that I turn on the computer and I'm online. The only problem I do have is with my email. Whenever I check my email, I have to go into accounts and change my incoming POP name. It always automatically changes to something that is not right.

Sounds like a problem with the wireless part of the modem. Try just a modem, and seperate wireless system.

Yeah... I think that is the route I am going with next. It was so convenient to have the modem and wireless in one box. But I am beginning to believe I am too unlucky with the consolidated box!

Thanks for all you replies... and just to let you know, Metrocast won't do anything. They'll check the cable line and ensure the power is ok. I am off to research a good modem/wireless setup.

Metrocrap's construction department just called me this week to give me the estimate to run cable off the main road to my house.

$2479.00.

I and said that's crazy. They hung up on me. Very professional. I'd offer you my Metrocrap modem, but they've already sent me one nastygram telling me to return it or face big penalty fees.

We have had the same exact problem since we started using the modem/router combo. We went back to seperate router and modem no problems since.

I had to call them this morning to send a tech to my place because my HD channels have not worked for a week. I asked what time they would be there? The woman at Metrocast told me they don't have a set time. So now I have to use a day of leave because they don't know what time they are going to be there! Anyone else having problems with HD service?

The rule is to be that they had to run the line up to like 100'... you had to pay for anything over that. I'd make them give you the details of the estimate. if they are trying to charge you the whole line, I would dispute that.

I know that customer service is the pits when they are a monopoly. If you think they are bad, try dealing with Verizon on something.

And something that people do not realize is that we have a local county committee that is suppose to monitor the cable contract. According to the committee meeting minutes, they never have compliants. Or the complaints were given to Metrocast to work out because it wasn't part of their job. I think if folks start calling and complaining enough, the committee won't have any other choice but to investigate. The committee members can be found on the county website!

The only problem I have with my metrocast internet is that I "lose" the signal at least 2 or 3 times a day. I have to turn my modem off then on to reset it. Don't know if that is the modem or the cable doing that.
