I would save the humiliation for his next problem if he has one. Let him know that the sign is what happens next and follow through if he gets in trouble again.

Besides with the liberals in the school system here they will probably make you stop so as to not scar the kid....

I am not sure what I would do since my kids are little. But you may want to check with the school to see if they are OK with it.
