Back to Long Island? Or someplace more affordable, like upstate? As much as I love Long Island and miss it constantly, it's so expensive and way too crowded now. Plus, you have the ghettos moving out east to the island from the city. But you were pretty far out east so you may be ok there.

Yeah, back out east. There are some very nice 55 and older trailer parks where I can get something nice for around $100k. I've seen some for sale in the $40-65k range, but they are smaller than I need.

I miss my stomping grounds. Great South Bay, Moriches, Port Jeff and all points east on the north shore.. and I still have family up there, my brother and his wife in Miller Place. I have much more thinking to do on the matter...

Wow, that's a great price for NY - especially LI. I miss it there too. So does my brother, who moved to SC and paid $140k to have a new house built.

Agreed, my brother bought a 3 floor, 5 bedroom, with eat in kitchen, dining, living room, and office as well as walk out basement and a .25 back yard just north of albany, ny for $220. Unbelievable!

If you can stand the snow, it's beautiful up there. Just prior to moving here, we lived in East Amherst, NY (20 minutes from downtown Buffalo or Niagara Falls) for a short 8 months. We bought a 3000 sq ft house with .5 acres, a huge koi pond, perfect landscaping including a 3 level deck and stamped concrete patio for $260,000. If only we could have found that on Long Island, I could have convinced hubby to move to LI. You can't even find that type of house down here, in somd, for that price. But what we saved in the cost of our house up there, we paid in taxes - they range from 6k to 13k a yr for an average sized house. Now THAT'S ridiculous.
