"Nobody never did like him" as in "Nobody liked him" or as in the double negative you actually typed meaning people DID like him? I honestly have no idea what that part of the sentence is supposed to mean.

I'm one of Sam's family members. I find it troubling that so many people need to reassure themselves of their own intelligence or morality by saying, basically, that he deserved to be killed. Should he have stolen that truck? Absolutely not. Did he deserve to die for theft? Apparently, a lot of people here think so.

Sounds like he died because he implied that he was armed and refused to show his hands. Not because he was a thief

This is what I find very disturbing. I'm not taking sides but I want to say this:

If I was a family member, the last place I would be is on a computer. Whenever there is a thread about someone being killed whether it was an accident, murder or suicide there is always some "family member" with a brand new account posting. I would think this soon after his death you would be grieving and not on somd checking to see what people are saying. I just don't understand this. I've seen this in so many threads, best friends, family members, co-workers, etc. It does not make sense.

What am I supposed to be doing - sitting with my head in my hands sobbing until the funeral? Have you ever dealt with the loss of a close family member? Grief is a complex issue - you can't simply sit and think about how sad you are for hours on end. It's exhausting. I've spent the past few days trying to constantly distract myself so that I'm NOT crying 24/7.

You don't know how you'll react to a tragedy like this unless you're actually going through it. But thanks for telling me I'm not grieving correctly. I'll keep that in mind when I'm at the funeral this weekend.

And my account is new because of how I found this forum. I was googling for news articles about Sam's death. I found this, along with two Washington Post articles and video clips from fox 5 and NBC 4. I read through all of the comments, was more than a little upset by them, and felt the need to make an account and comment.

Since you're saying this happens every time someone dies, I'd guess I'm not too unusual in how I'm dealing with my grief.

Uh, yes I have. I lost a brother, both parents and several friends. The computer is the last thing I think about. I would rather be with other family members, friends, etc. than staring at a computer screen. I guess everyone has their own way of dealing with the loss of someone close.

He stole a vehicle, ran from the police, ordered to stopped, acted like he had a weapon - he was shot... sorry that he died but if he was doing something constructive maybe, just maybe he would not have been killed...

Bay_cat: I'm sorry for your losses, as well, then. Everyone does deal with grief in a different way. Normally, I wouldn't spend my time posting on internet forums, either, but when you've lost someone and you find a whole group of people talking about how awful he was and how he deserved what he got, you get a little upset. I'm not sure if that was the situation with your family members, or not. Dealing with it is really painful.

kwilia and jetmonkey: You're right. I'm in mourning. I'm actually off of work today for bereavement, which is why I'm able to comment. Thanks for your concern.

Clevally: I'm well aware of Sam's criminal record. His issues are something my family has been dealing with first hand for the past few years. When someone you love has problems with drugs or problems with the law, it's heart breaking. It's even worse when they die as a result of those problems.

Clearly, everyone here would rather I hadn't commented. I'll go back to letting you all talk about how bad people who do bad things deserve exactly what they get. Hopefully, none of your family members fall off the path and have something similar happen. I wouldn't wish dealing with situations like this one on my worst enemy.

Thanks.

I have had that situation - but my family member did get themselves straightened out and is now a productive citizen... and this is after a lengthy rap sheet, in and out of rehabs, etc... He just realized one day what life was about and he pulled himself up by his boot-straps.

We see this all the time and are a bit desensitized to it. I do feel sorry for the family, but do not shed a tear for Sam. I have said it once and I will say it again; live like a thug, die like a thug...
