for a second I thought you were going to suggest hitting the pedestrian and flipping him into the car tailgaiting you, making it look like he was the one that hit them in the first place

but that would be a bad thing,....right?

I got in my car and headed to the hospital. My sister behind me in her car. Going down RT 5 we got behind every slow poke in the county. (Or so we thought because of the call from family members at the hospital). I could not get there fast enough. I cussed every person on the road that morning (god forgave me). When we walked into the hospital I looked at my other sister and she shook her head "NO" our mother had died and no amount of CPR or anything could bring her back. So now when I see someone racing up behind me I think back to that day and just if possible pull off and send them on their way. Cause you never really know what is going on in someones life. But, that doesn't give anyone the right to put someone elses life in danger. There are some crazy drivers out there and they drive like bats out of hell. I am glad you are ok and I hope you have a much better day and a very nice drive back home....
Totally agree. I had the same thing happen when grandma was being taken to the hospital. Luckily I got to see her AND everything turned out ok...but I was so pissed at some other drivers on the way.

You hitting them wouldn't have solved anything. Then you just wouldn't be getting to see your mom, and you would possibly/probably be injured.

Cited. But yes, you are correct

Right.
Slowing down and the left turn signal will send the tail gater flying around you on the right.

Actually had this happen one time on St.Andrews. I had a 'gater, was turning left and a bike was across from my turn. Slow down, signal, guy goes flying around me on the right and then locked up his brakes to avoid the cyclist.

tailgaters tend to tunnel focus on the car ahead, watching for brake lights and don't actually look where they're going.

Unfortanently, we've got all these wonderful Citizen Police who go out and try to police the roads. If someone's going the speed limit, that's fair game, I'll bite my tongue and back off. But if they're going under the speed limit (and especially if they're in the Left Lane), I'll get as close as I need to and "draft" off them.

It should be legal to "bumpdraft" these people that drive below the speed limit in the left lane.
If they don't have a turn signal on and there's no red coming up and no cars right in front of them, there's no reason for them to be on their brakes and driving so slow.

You talk about Citizen Police, Andy. What do you think that is? It's not illegal to drive under the posted speed limit unless there's a minimum speed posted. After all, it's called a speed LIMIT.

actually,I think and I might be wrong, but.
I believe that you can be cited for driving too slow, or below the speed limit if it is holding back the normal flow of traffic.

the question I have always had is this, if the speed limit is 55 yet the "normal" flow runs at 70, can you be considered to be blocking the "normal" flow of traffic by doing the limit of 55?

I thought that was true, too. I was driving up the road a couple weeks ago, and there was a loaded dump truck about 5 cars ahead of me. He was going 10 below the speed limit. I rode behind him for 20 miles, and cars were lined up behind me as far as I could see. I called the MSP, and they said, "Too bad, so sad." They said he wasn't doing anything wrong. I thought otherwise.....

Wow, I've never heard the argument before that tailgating is the fault of the person being tailgated because they shouldn't be watching the other cars around them

if it was single lane then the dumptruck is restricted to 40mph or something like that. Different vehicles follow different laws, like the school bus, cant go over 50 or 55 regardless of the posted limit on the road while there are children on board.

the laws are not written to be followed, they are written to be broken for revenue

I hate it when the cars behind a slow mover won't pass but stay bunched up so you can't work your way to the head of the line.
